20 Outdated Relationship Standards That Men Are So Over, According to Modern Women

14. Being Strong

Men are held to a high standard when it comes to appearing masculine. Most fathers would teach their boys to have two faces. One in public and one in private. If you ever needed to cry, make sure you do it at home while you’re alone. Better yet, don’t cry at all. Just pretend to be King Leonidas from the movie 300.

Showing any signs of sensitivity could be perceived in the wrong light, and the guy could be described as whiny, or even weak.

But there’s an upside to being sensitive, which according to The Good Men Project is tied to a person’s capacity to empathize. Guys who have a sensitive side are kind, passionate, and emotionally responsive, meaning that they’re better able to respond to their partners.

This Reddit guy user, PhinnishPharma talked about the difficulties of being a sensitive man and how both men and women tend to look down upon his personality. But hopefully, as time goes on, we could all agree to the upside of this different breed of men.

13. Getting Married

Marriage may soon be a practice that’s going to get tossed into the dumpster truck. It’s mostly young people who decide they’d rather achieve goals connected to their careers before thinking about marriage first. No one’s in a hurry anymore.

A 2010 Pew survey put it best, with single people feeling that marriage didn’t have many advantages in achieving “fulfilling private life, being financially secure, finding happiness and having social status.”

For men, there’s also been an increased correlation with being overweight after marriage, more so than women, probably because they think they can take it easy after a while. There are other problems as well, where a couple becomes to rely solely on each other for emotional support, losing time for their friends and family. Then there’s the divorce factor, and we all know that figure of 40-50% circulating all around the internet, so why take the risk?

This guy on Reddit user theredpoo put forth a list of reasons as to why long-term relationships and marriage differ, and how the latter might be less desirable than the former because it creates unchosen obligations and perpetuates the fantasy of being together forever. It might be too dark for some, but it’s worth a check.
